Spirit Of Alpine Slovenia

From our base on the shores of beautiful Lake Bled we take a network of paths on a short trek into the western part of the Julian Alps, following secluded gorges and ascending to high alpine pastures and viewpoints that afford us spectacular views of surrounding snow-capped mountains. A comprehensive trek then takes us into the amazing Triglav National Park, home to abundant wildlife and rare mountain wildflowers. Slovenia's highest peak, Mount Triglav (2864m) towers over countless vistas of scenic beauty - glacial lakes, grassy plateaus, clear rivers and the stunning colours of the welcoming valleys. We have the opportunity to discover many areas of historical significance such as the area near Mount Krn, where close to a million soldiers became the casualties of fierce fighting during World War I and the landscape was changed dramatically by grenades, mines and trenches. This horrific episode was graphically depicted by Ernest Hemingway in his moving book, "A Farewell to Arms"; however our impressions of this area are sure to be a softened when combined with the stunning panoramic vistas of the surrounding lush scenery and dramatic mountains. The trails that we follow take us to places that see few travellers. In following the call of the Slovenian wilderness, we discover for ourselves the wild heart of Europe.
